Valued and loved members of the Rotary Family and the Mooroopna Community.
Frank moved to Mooroopna in the early 1950’s to take on the position as Accountant of the Mooroopna and District Base Hospital. Margaret followed shortly after with their three children and pregnant with their fourth.
A short time after Frank arrived at the hospital he was promoted to Secretary with the title of Assistant Manager, the position he held until his retirement at age 65.
On arrival in Mooroopna they, along with their children attended the then Mooroopna Methodist Church (now The Uniting Church of Mooroopna) and they were both involved with the church all their lives. Frank was the Sunday School Superintendent, an Elder and Church Councillor.
Marg & Frank proceeded to have a family of 8 children, and both became very involved in their children’s activities:- School Council, Mothers Clubs, numerous sporting pursuits, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. Marg’s drop scones were famous at sporting morning or afternoon teas.
While Marg’s time was mainly spent looking after the family, they were both very involved in many other community activities. Frank was a Charter member of The Rotary Club of Mooroopna remaining a member until his death. Over his 52 years of membership, he held numerous positions in the club which included President in 1966-67. For their service to Rotary, Frank was awarded two Paul Harris Fellowship Awards and Marg received one. These are the highest awards given by the club for service to the club and the community. Frank was also awarded the Kiwanis Mooroopna Community Service Award in 1997.
Due to their large family and their community involvement, there won’t be too many Mooroopna organisations that haven’t been touched by Marg or Frank’s support. They both went about their contributions with no desire for recognition for what they did.
It is because of their outstanding community support that the Rotary Club has proudly erected this Exercise Course in their memory.
